Our Story
In the summer of 2018, several strong leaders and volunteers in Thunder Bay agreed that women from across borders need a better way to meet each other, network, learn cultures and traditions, and show their strength for doing good in the community.
We started as Asian Women’s Tapestry Network. We welcome women from all walks of life. We are professionals working passionately in our chosen fields or skillfully adapting to other careers in Canada.
The Tapestry platform has a charitable focus, and helps in networking, nurturing friendships and supporting endeavors and interests of its members. Over the course of its development, we have raised significant dollars for Fay Peterson, Alpha court, and Precious Bundle. We raise funds primarily through organizing ethnic events, guest-talks, fund-raising activities, and cultural exchange events.
In spring 2019, we organized Thunder Bay’s first Ethnic Food Picnic, in partnership with Roots to Harvest and showcased foods from different cultures. Through this journey we have also been able to support newcomers and women entrepreneurs with small businesses who are making their way into Canadian mainstream.
However, with the growing interest and membership, the network has decided to rename itself as the Tapestry Women’s Network – no boundaries of any kind - geographic or cultural. The platform is open to any women member in the community.
